RENA MCCARRON-ROONEY from Buncrana faces world number 1 Seo Su-Yeon in the table tennis quarter-finals at the Paralympics in Rio this afternoon.

McCarron-Rooney and the Korean will meet at around 5.40pm in the Riocentro.

Last night, McCarron-Rooney defeated Jordan’s Maha Bargouthi 11-3, 11-4, 11-8.

Earlier yesterday, the now-Galway-based McCarron-Rooney lost out to reigning gold medallist Jing Liu from China 11-9, 11-4, 11-2 in her opening group game.

Last night’s win over Bargouthi, however, has catapulted McCarron-Rooney, a European silver medal winner last year, will take on Su-Yeon hoping to put herself into medal territory in Brazil.
