The sun was out and the mercury was up as stage five of the An Post Rás made its way from Buncrana to Dungloe today.

The 181.2k stage today is the longest stage and featured a category three climb at Ballymastocker Strand on the warmest day of the year so far.

Regan Gough – pictured above by North West News Pix – of An Post Chain Reaction team was the stage five winner today when the Rás made its way back into Dungloe.

It was the team’s second stage win of the week.

Cameron Meyer of the Australia National Team was second and Daan Meijers of Netherlands Delta Cycling finished third.

Matthew Teggart lost the lead after suffering today and JLT Condor’s James Gullen took over in the yellow jersey

Taggart was over nine minutes down today.

Gough won the sprint up the hill against Australia’s track world champion Cameron Meyer in a superb finish.

Tomorrow, the event takes the riders from Dungloe to Donegal town, including a climb up the famous Glengesh Pass between Ardara and Glencolmcille.
