Poll: You decide this week’s Sports Person of the Week, in association with O’Reilly’s

We have six nominees for our latest Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub Sports Person of the Week, in association with O’Reilly’s.

Each weekly award winner will receive a kitbag, a jersey and a half-zip, supplied by O’Reilly’s.

The award winner will be chosen via a public vote from a shortlist selected by our panel.

O’Reilly’s Sportswear was founded in 2017 by well-known Twin Towns sporting brothers Steven and Martin O’Reilly.

Our poll closes at noon on Thursday.

Noreen Bonner (Finn Valley AC)

At the World Masters Championships in Malaga on Sunday, Noreen Bonner helped Ireland to a team silver medal in the half-marathon. In her own individual category, Bonner agonisingly missed out on a place on the podium after a magnificent effort.

Cathal Brown (Illies Golden Gloves)

On Friday night at the Dockers Club in Belfast, Illies Golden Gloves man Cathal Brown won the Ulster Senior heavyweight title. It was Brown’s second Ulster title in a row, having had joy at light-heavy last year. Brown took a 4-1 verdict against Cavan’s Thomas Maughan, to the delight of a big support.

Emma Harper (Raphoe ladies hockey)

Raphoe ladies began their season in excellent fashion on Saturday with a 5-0 win over CI Ladies in the Ulster Cup. Star of the show was Emma Harper, who netted a hat-trick for Richard Tinney’s team. Harper was in clinical form and showed a ruthless edge, too, to land the hat-trick.

Aaron Kelly (Sean MacCumhaills)

Sean MacCumhaills made sure of a place in the Donegal SFC quarter-finals with a win over Killybegs on Sunday. They were helped on their way by a hat-trick from the in-form Aaron Kelly. All three of Kelly’s goals arrived in the first half and his was a real eye-catching display.

Darren McElwaine (Gaeil Fhánada)

Darren McElwaine turned in a memorable performance last Wednesday in Convoy as Gaeil Fhánada captured the Division 2 Minor title. McElwaine hit 1-3 as they defeated Kilcar. His goal, in the 36th minute, showed him at his brilliant best.

Alison McGonigle (Illies Celtic Ladies)

Illies Celtic completed the clean sweep of honours when they won the Ulster Cup final on Saturday evening. Illies fell 2-1 behind, but Alison McGonigle’s double helped Illies to a 4-2 win. John Doherty’s team have won the North West Women’s Super League, Inishowen Cup and, now, the Ulster Cup.
