THERE WAS strong Donegal interest in yesterday’s ties in the independent.ie Sigerson Cup.

Holders DCU thumped Athlone IT 6-14 to 1-7 last night with Buncrana’s Caolan McGonagle lining out for DCU. McGonagle had played for DCU in the O’Byrne Cup and made his Donegal debut against Fermanagh earlier this month in the Dr McKenna Cup.

The Glasnevin scholars ran riot. Monaghan’s Shane Carey scored 3-6 while Ultan Harney of Roscommon, Dublin’s Shane Carthy and Conor McGraynor from Wicklow also netted goals.

Gaoth Dobhair’s Cian Mulligan and Glenswilly’s Philip O’Donnell are also a part of the DCU panel.

Carndonagh corner-back and Donegal Under-21 player Danny Monagle lined out for Athlone IT.

NUIG hammered Trinity College 3-14 to 1-4 last night with Michael Daly, Owen Gallagher and Kevin Finn getting the goals for the Galway side. Kilcar’s Matthew McClean is on the NUIG panel, but didn’t feature.

Cloughaneely’s Cillian Gallagher is part of the Maynooth squad, but had a watching brief as his side lost 0-13 to 1-8 against Queen’s, who were powered by former Down player Marty Clarke.

Earlier yesterday, St Eunan’s and Donegal player Caolán Ward played as IT Carlow enjoyed a 1-10 to 0-10 win.

Later today, Cork IT face Garda College, while St Pat’s Drumcondra face GMIT.
