AODHÁN FERRY netted the only goal of the game as Glenea United Reserves clinched the Glencar Inn Saturday Reserve Division title today.

Glenea knew what they had to do at Central Park. With Castlefin Celtic, the leaders ahead of today, finished their programme of games, only victory would suffice for Glenea.

They broke the deadlock when, after starting brightly with a series of corners and half chances, Martin Doohan’s corner wasn’t dealt with and Ferry finished with a bang.

Glenea had goalkeeper Ciaran Gallagher to thank for a point-blank save from Damien Hanlon.

Lee O’Brien might have made it 2-0 for Glenea, but Ben Boyle denied him with a save out of the top drawer.

Chances were at a premium and Glenea’s nerves whistled when Pudgie McGee was sent off 20 minutes from time. Referee Barry Hunter gave McGee his second booking of the day for a foul on Daniel McHugh.

Another wonderful save by Gallagher kept Glenea in front – and the Pairc Joe men held on to take the silverware.
