Greencastle FC enjoyed a fine win against Cockhill Celtic Youths in the Jackie Crossan Premier Division.
Greencastle FC 6-0 Cockhill Celtic Youths
The home team ended their league campaign in style and started brightly when an Eamon Donnelly corner fell to Nigel McMonagle and his first time shot was well saved by young Cockhill keeper Owen Colhoun.
Greencastle took the lead with after four minutes when keeper Dylan Doherty picked out Michael Barr who in turn floated a ball over the top to McMonagle who quickly sidestepped the keeper and slotted home.
At the other end Michael Doherty for Cockhill had his shot from 12 yards out blocked by Mark Henry. Greencastle went two up then after Michael Barr played the ball out to Gavin Rowan who advanced on the right wing and hit a low cross in to McMonagle whose shot was saved by the keeper but Jason Dickson was on hand to slot home the rebound.
Then after Donnelly’s corner, a Michael Barr header was cleared and Rowan shot just over the bar. Greencastle went three up on the half hour mark when a long ball out of defence from Barr found McMonagle on the edge of the box who turned and curled a lovely effort inside the right hand post.
Cockhill tried to get back in to the game and greencastle keeper had to be alert and race from his line to gather at the feet of Jack McDaid. At the other end Dickson chipped just wide from the edge of the box.
Again the home team started the second half brightly and after evading a couple of challenges in midfield Shea Mclaughlin played the ball up to Dickson who shot just wide of the right hand post.
In good build up play Michael Barr passed to Jamie McCormack who played a pinpoint pass in to McMonagle whose shot from the edge of the box was cleared off the line by a defender.
Greencastle made it four after Conor Gillen broke down the right wing, cut inside on to his left foot and curled a fine effort in to the top corner giving the keeper no chance. Michael Henry for Greencastle then crossed in for Christy Hegarty whose shot was well saved.
Greencastle added a fifth after Shea McLaughlin played a lovely chip over the top to Christy Hegarty on the left side who whipped in a low cross for Jason Dickson to calmly finish at the back post. Ben Doherty for Greencastle then passed out to Ronan Doherty on the right wing who beat a defender and hit a powerful shot just narrowly wide.
Greencastle sealed their victory with five minutes to go when after great wing work by Hegarty he played the ball in to McMonagle who twisted and turned, then drilled home to complete his hat trick.
Inishowen Engineering Division Two A
Redcastle Res 4-1 Dunree Res
The home side got off to a great start after Brendan Murphy threaded a pass into the path of Shane McCallion who neatly tucked the ball into the bottom corner.
Terry McColgan then had two glorious chances from close range but failed to hit the target with either. Redcastle were unlucky midway through the half after Brian McColgans header for a James Farren corner crashed off the bar.
The pressure told minutes later after an Aiden Ferns cross broke off a defender and fell kindly for McCallion to slot home. Dunree rallied and got back into the game before the interval when TJ McKinley collected a short corner and drilled a low shot through a crowd of players to the net.
But Redcastle regained their two goal cushion on 56 minutes when Gavin Grant fed McColgan and he converted from twelve yards. McColgan completed the scoring in the 77th minute running onto Murphys pass to finish well.
Strand Hotel First Division
Clonmany Shamrocks 4-1 Glengad Res
Played on a stormy wet Tuesday evening Clonmany threatened early on with Adam McLaughlin firing over Michael McLaughlin’s crossbar from 20 yards out.
Steve Harkin also flashed a header from a corner just over in the 11th minute. Clonmany did take the lead in the 13th minute when Pearce McCarron’s shot from 25 yards out took a deflection which took it beyond Michael McLaughlin’s reach and into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
Glengad’s Nathan McConalogue created a good chance in the 33rd minute but shot narrowly wide of Patrick Harkin’s goal.Clonmany added a second on the 38th minute when Paul Devlin slipped through a pass for Pearce McCarron to run onto and drive a left foot shot across the goals and into the bottom left hand corner of the Glengad net past Michael McLaughlin.
Clonmany started the second half brightly and Pearce McCarron and Lee Coyle both drew good saves from Michael McLaughlin in the Glengad goal.
Then came a period of 15 minutes where Glengad began to get the upper hand with Paul McDermott and Nathan McConalogue both drawing saves from Clonmany goalie Patrick Harkin.
Glengad eventually pulled a goal back in the 64th minute after Nathan McConalogue broke clear on the left wing before cutting into the box and unleashing a fierce drive which Patrick Harkin parried away but first to react to the loose ball was Paul McDermott and he shot from the left of the goals back across and into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Clonmany’s response to this goal came three minutes later when Pearce McCarron received the ball on the right side of the box and he created enough space to angle a shot to the opposite corner of the net to complete his hat-trick.
Clonmany added a fourth in the final minutes when second half substitutes Michael Devlin and Jason Devlin combined with Jason driving a shot from the left of the box to the left hand bottom corner to complete the scoring.
Ulster Junior Shield Quarter Final
Oldtown Celtic 5-3 Glengad Res
Played on the astro pitch in Letterkenny Community Centre on Saturday Glengad’s failure to defend set pieces cost them dearly.
Two goals from the home side in the opening ten minutes gave the Inishowen side a mountain to climb. Firstly Ronan Coyle headed home a corner before Christy McLaughlin drove a free kick from the edge of the area to the top corner.
Glengad settled and Gary Kelly was unlucky to see his rasping drive cannon back off the bar. They reduced the deficit after a Paul McGonigle penalty crashed off the bar to the edge of the area for Brian Doherty to loop a header over the stranded keeper.
Kelly was then denied by the home keeper after a good cross from PJ McDaid on the left before the visitor levelled on 43minutes. Jason Doherty advanced and crossed for Niall McColgan to head to the top corner from ten yards.
But the home side regained the lead on the stroke of half time after Luke Nelis robbed a defender and crossed for Tommy McLaughlin to drill home from the edge of the area. Glengad were dealt another blow minutes after the restart when Lee Kelly collected a second yellow card in what seemed a very harsh call.
They were dealt a further blow when Tommy McLaughlin duly despatched the resultant free kick to the top corner to restore the home sides two goal advantage. But again Roy Kelly s side responded with Brian Doherty glancing a header to the bottom corner form john G McDermotts corner. Oldtwon sealed victory and their passage to the semi-finals when Michael Hay headed home at the back post from another set piece.

Redcastle Res 2-0 Clonmany Celtic
Redcastle inflicted a first defeat of the season on the league champions in a close hard fought game at Foyle Park.
Cianan Mulcahy went close with a long range effort for the home side before Cahir Mclaughlin had a shot saved by Celtics Kieran Friel.
Clonmany’s best chance came before the break but Niall McDaid fired straight at Michael McCole from sixteen yards. The breakthrough came for the home side on 66 minutes after substitute Peter Grant made an immediate impact flicking the ball on for Brendan Murphy who calmly slotted home.
They added a second on 81 minutes when Cahir McLaughlin broke the offside trap to round Friel and slot home. Clonmany pushed forward and in the closing stages Paul Mclaughlin unleashed two efforts which McCole saved well.
Dunree Res 2-1 Cockhill Res
Dunree finished their league campaign with a narrow derby victory in a tight encounter with few chances.
Dunree took the lead after Tommy Doherty pounced on a defensive back pass to tuck the ball low into the corner. But the visitors equalised before the break when Barber’s corner fell to Mark Gillespie to slot low past Philip Doherty.
Dunree regained the lead on the hour mark after a good run on the right by John Doherty saw him slip the ball into Tommy Doherty whose curling effort took a wicked deflection on its way to the net.
Cockhill threw everything forward but a brilliant display by Doherty in the home goal kept them at bay. Firstly he tipped over a Bernard Gubbins free kick before then tipping a Martin Breslin header onto the bar to clinch the points for the home side.

Illies Res 5-2 Culdaff FC
The newly crowned league champions opened the scoring in the first minutes after a Frankie O Connor crossfield ball was fired home by Alan Fletcher.
On 11 minutes Fletcher beat his man inside the area and fired high past Dermot Callaghan to make it 2-0. Culdaff replied with Jack McLaughlin breaking clear but firing high over the bar.
Illies took over and added a third when Gavin Doherty raced onto Fletchers pass and drilled low to the corner.
Then a Gavin Doherty corner was headed home by John Pio Donaghy before Fletcher turned sharply and fired to the roof of the net to complete his hat trick on the stroke of half time. Culdaff go a goal back on 54 minutes after McLaughlin broke through the home defence to drill past Graham Doherty.
After great work by McLaughlin on the hour mark he pulled the ball back for Niall Gordon to slot home. Mclaughlin then almost added a third but was denied by a superb one handed save from Doherty. Illies responded and Callaghan in the Culdaff goal saved well from Martin Donaghy and Ronan Hegarty in quick succession. Culdaff had the final chance when ben Curley broke the offside trap but blazed over the bar.
Clonmany Res 8-1 Carrowmena FC
Clonmany avenged last weeks defeat in Tremone and took the lead in the 14th minute when Tiarnan McDonald set up Michael Devlin to shoot to the bottom left hand corner of the Carrowmena net giving Ronan Bonner no chance.
Clonmany added a second in the 21st minute after Lee Coyle fed Michael Devlin in the box and he squared for Paul Devlin to shoot from the right side of the box into the bottom corner .Clonmany created two good chances in quick succession on the half hour mark ,first David McGonigle raced clear on the left and brought a good save out of Ronan Bonner.
The ball was’nt fully cleared and David received it again on the left side of the box and his cross was met by Thomas Comiskey who saw his shot clear the crossbar.As the half ended Clonmany saw plenty of chances being spurned in the Carrowmena box .
Clonmany added their third goal four minutes after the restart. Thomas Comiskey saw his shot drift wide to the right side of the box where David McGonigle retrieved it before teeing up Tiarnan McDonald to drive home a low shot from 15 yards out.
The best goal of the game came in the 54th minute with Clonmany centre-half Aaron Harkin breaking forward from his own half, he played a one two with Michael Devlin before then playing a one-two with David McGonigle on the edge of the box and sliding home his shot from 12yards to make it four.
Carrowmena pulled a goal back in the 67th minute with Ronan Bonner’s long clearance being allowed to bounce and the hesitancy was seized on by Art Parkinson and his shot was diverted past Cillian McCarron by an out-stretched leg.
Clonmany made it 5-1 two minutes later after Michael Devlin ran on to Lee Coyle’s pass and drove the ball to the bottom corner of the net. David McGonigle was fouled in the box in the 75th minute and Michael Devlin stepped up to score his third from the penalty spot to the bottom left hand corner of Ronan Bonner’s net.
Bonner then pulled off two fantastic saves in quick succession in the 84th minute to prevent Carrowmena from going further behind but Clonmany’s seventh came in the 86th minute after more good work from David McGonigle on the right wing who squared the ball to substitute Mark Kelly to finish well.
Clonmany added an eight in the final minute when Michael Devlin was taken down in the box and he took the kick himself ,shooting low to the bottom right hand corner of Ronan Bonner’s goal to score his fourth .
