Massive three points as Harps overcome Cabinteely

Finn Harps got back on track after the summer break with an away victory over Cabinteely in what was an important contest for Ollie Horgan’s forces.

Cabinteely 0-1 Finn Harps

Keith Cowan was the man that got Harps goal after the seventy minute mark with the commanding centre-half getting his head to a corner. He has so far been awarded the goal but suggestions are that a Cabinteely defender touched it last.

The victory put Harps just a point off Longford in the play-off spots and seven behind leaders UCD. It also makes next weeks game with Drogheda all the more important with only two points between Harps and their second placed rivals.

Harps had to be at their best defensively for long periods of the game with Cabinteely putting a lot of pressure on in the first-half with Dean Casey and Keith Dalton both going close.

For long terms of the second-half the case was the same but Horgan’s men battled hard to try and get a foothold in the game.

The biggest chance in the early stages of the second period went to Sean Fitzpatrick after he was found by Karl Byrne, but he was unable to convert.

It looked like Harps were going to settle for a solid point away from home until Cowan heroically popped up with the winner on the 71st minute.

To Cabinteely’s credit they fought hard for an equaliser but couldn’t manage to find a way past Ciaran Gallagher, meaning Harps return home with all three points.

Cabinteely: Stephen McGuinness, Sean Fitzpatrick, Jack Tuite, Conor Kelly, Dean Casey, Karl Byrne, Christian Lotera, Jack Watson, Conor Early, Marty Waters, Keith Dalton.

Finn Harps: Ciaran Gallagher, Ciaran Coll, Keith Cowan, Sam Todd, Aidan Friel, Mark Coyle, Gareth Harkin, Paddy McCourt, Mark Timlin, Jesse Devers, Michael Place.
