A GROUP of local cyclists are about to embark on a gruelling 580 kilometre trek tomorrow in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.

Twenty-one members of the Errigal Cycling club, who call themselves the ‘Mad Dogs’, are setting off on a Mizen – Malin cycle this Thursday.

The pals are planning to be peddling for two and a half days to make it back to Donegal on Saturday.

Their epic journey will be to give back to a place that has touched the hearts of a lot of the cyclists – Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin. To donate, please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mad-dogs1

They said: “Some of us had children attend Crumlin hospital and from the front door right through to each end of the hospital we were looked after so well by every member of staff. We want to thank them all for their hard work and kindness. It’s just a small gesture of thanks for all they do.”

The cyclists are: Shaun McDaid, Colm Richardson, Martin Temple, Martin Jordan, Alan Mailey, Damien Holian, Mark Cassidy, Kevin Holian, Troy Hegarty, Owen Boyle, Neil Sullivan, James Frain, Samuel Rankin, Eoghan Moore, Cormac Hall, Mark Hunter, Seamus Wilkinson, Victor Hunter, Hugh Gallagher, Paul Fagan, Liam Doherty.  The team will be keeping a place in their bunch for Shaun Hollian, who unfortunately can’t join in due to a major surgery. He was one of the key founders of the idea, so the cyclists would like to continue to count him as a team member.

The cost of the event is funded by each participant so that all money raised will go directly to Crumlin Hospital.
