Here’s what lies ahead for Donegal ladies in the All-Ireland series

WITH the celebrations having died down following Donegal ladies’ first ever Ulster SFC title last Sunday, the path ahead is now clear for Davy McLaughlin’s team.

Geraldine McLaughlin scored 2-7 in the 2-12 to 1-10 victory over Monaghan at St Tiernach’s Park in Clones last Sunday to seal a memorable success.

However, manager McLaughlin had his troops back training on Wednesday night with the All-Ireland quarter-finals in mind.

As Ulster champions, Donegal are already in the last eight, with eyes on the back door fixture as Armagh face Weatmeath at Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday, throwing in at 7:15pm.

The winners of that tie will face Donegal on Saturday, August 22, with a venue to be confirmed.

Donegal defeated Armagh 1-11 to 1-10 in the Tesco Ladies National Football League Division 2 at Glenfin in February, only to lose heavily to the same opposition, 4-18 to 4-6, in the league final. Donegal hammered Westmeath 3-10 to 1-4 in the league semi-final (Rose Boyle in action, pictured above by Sportsfile).

Dublin, the Leinster champions, await the winners of the qualifier between Cavan and Monaghan, who face one another at Breffni Park on Saturday week, August 8, at 5:15pm.

The semi-final draw sees Donegal/ Westmeath / Armagh v Dublin / Cavan / Monaghan.

On the other side of the draw, Galway and Kerry upset the apple carts to get the better of Mayo and Cork in Connacht and Munster respectively.

Mayo look to get themselves back on track with a Saturday afternoon qualifier against Tyrone in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, throw-in 2pm.

Cork face Meath at Semple Stadium in Thurles at 3pm, with the winners to face Galway in the last eight – a tie that will take place at the Gaelic Grounds as part of a double-header.

The Limerick venue will also play host to Kerry against the winners of the Mayo and Tyrone qualifier on Saturday, August 15.

Therefore, the semi-finals will be Galway / Cork / Meath v Kerry / Mayo / Tyrone.
