GAA calendar decision due by end of January

THE GAA has said it is not planning to discuss the season’s calendar until the end of the month.

With national leagues largely expected to be pushed back until March, it is still hoped that all competitions will take place in 2021.

The calendar is up for discussion at the end of January, giving clubs four to six weeks to prepare for games, albeit if restrictions allow them.

The GAA said it is waiting on the next government update on Covid-19 restrictions to determine the National League fixture schedule and when inter-county squads could resume full training.

Collective training was due to resume on 15th January, but Level 5 lockdown as prevented all sessions taking place.

Meanwhile, the 2021 GAA Championship draws are set to take place in the middle of February.

GAA Head of Games Administration, Feargal McGill told the Irish Times he was hopeful that the championship will not be affected: “We mightn’t necessarily get every scheduled fixture completed but we’ll have a championship even if we have to compromise in some way on leagues and trim back on some of the fixtures.”
