Heartbreak for Jason Black as world record attempt fails

Jason Black fell short in his attempts to break the record for the longest distance reached in a 24-hour cycle.

The Letterkenny man started at 9 o’clock yesterday morning in an attempt to beat the previous record set by Christop Strasser which was 941km back in 2007.

Approximately 8 hours into the cycle Jason was four minutes up on the time Strasser had set.

Unfortunately for Black at the ten minute mark dizziness took a hold of him and his team decided it was no longer safe to allow him to chase the record.

Around two hours before he had to retire from his efforts, the Letterkenny rider stated on his Facebook page that conditions were very difficult.

The heat in the Derby Arena Veledrome was causing him issues and he tried to improve this by changing his helmet to one with more vents.

Updates on his Facebook page showed just how difficult the effort was going to be for Black. “Track Endurance is F**king tough,” he said.

Later updates stated that Black would like to thank his fans for the support and that although his team felt the strength was still there, he just couldn’t shake the dizziness.
