Goals the key as Termon take Under-14 ladies title

TERMON 2-11 ST EUNAN’S 0-10

TERMON’S conveyor belt just keeps on rolling.

The Burn Road side won a thrilling Under-14 ‘A’ final in Saturday’s showpiece at Sean MacCumhaill Park.

Goals in either half by Aoife Kelly and Ciara McGarvey made all the difference and brought yet more success for Termon, who have been Donegal’s leading lights in the ladies game in recent years.

And they’re showing no signs of letting up after overcoming neighbours St Eunan’s in an exciting contest by the Finn.

Kelly’s goal late in the first half gave Termon the spur they needed and, just five minutes into the second half, they took a giant leap to glory when McGarvey’s opportunistic strike deceived the Eunan’s goalkeeper, Shannon Doherty, and flew to the net.

The teams were level five times in the opening half with three frees from the deadly Claire Doherty keeping St Eunan’s in check.

Termon bagged a crucial goal for a half-time advantage when Kelly jinked her way through the Eunan’s defence before picking her spot and firing past the helpless Doherty.

When McGarvey found the net in the early moments of part two, Paddy McMenamin’s girls were on the way to victory.

With Tiarnach McMenamin (2) – the manager’s daughter – Mya Alcorn (2) and McGarvey grabbing points, it was Termon’s delight at the conclusion.

Termon: Annie McLaughlin; Amy McGettigan, Sarah Trearty, Malisa O’Toole; Katleigh Carr, Sarah Kho, Lauren Russell; Eimear Alcorn, Tiarnach McMenamin (0-4, 1f); Ciara McElwaine (0-1), Rionach Giles, Ciara McGarvey (1-2); Mya Alcorn (0-2), Aoife Kelly (1-1), Molly Page. Subs used: Casey Gallagher, Molly Gallagher.

St Eunan’s: Shannon Doherty; Aaliyah McCormack, Katyie McGovern, Molly Kennedy (0-1); Ailbhe Cannon, Laura Kealy, Aoife McCarron; Katherine Kelly, Caoimhe Kelly; Lee Walsh, Claire Doherty (0-5, 5f), Niamh Harkin; Ciara McFadden (0-1), Niamh Walsh (0-3, 3f), Ciara O’Donnell. Subs used: Laoise Ryan, Katie Hasson.
