FISA confirms new schedule for Olympic rowing events

FISA, World Rowing’s governing body, has confirmed a revised schedule for the Olympic rowing events, postponed today because of weather conditions in Rio.

Letterkenny woman Sinead Jennings and Dubliner Claire Lambe were among the crews scheduled to be in semi-final action today, the pair set to go in the women’s lightweight double sculls semi.

Heavy rainfall, allied to heavy winds and mist around the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon meant that FISA, for the second time in four days, had to postpone the rowing events.

Jennings and Lambe were to be in action in the heats on Sunday, but had to wait until Monday, when they breezed through to the semi-finals.

Initially this morning, organisers called off the earlier session, but with no sign of an improvement the entire day’s action was put back.
