Downings and Naomh Conaill win their Comortás quarter-finals in Cork

DONEGAL’S TWO PARTICIPANTS at the Comortás Peile na Gaeltachta – Downings and Naomh Conaill – won their respective quarter-finals this evening in Ballyvourney, Cork.

Both teams had come through preliminary round ties earlier in the day.

This evening, Downings enjoyed a 3-13 to 0-5 win over Cill Na Martra from Cork and will now face Kerry’s Lios Póil in the  semi-final tomorrow at 3:30pm at Páirc Íosagáin in the junior competition.

Goals from Jamie Lee McBride, Colin Gallagher and Oisin Boyce were the goalscorers.

Downings scorers: Jamie Lee McBride (1-1), Colin Gallagher (1-1), Oisin Boyce (1-0), Lorcan Connor (0-3), Gary McClafferty (0-2), Ben McBride (0-2), Donal McBride (0-2), Shea Coyle (0-1), Allen Pasoma (0-1).

In the seniors, reigning All-Ireland champions Naomh Conaill came through a frantic match against Wolfe Tones from Meath, 4-24 to 6-8.

Dermot Molloy scored two goals for the current Donegal SFC champions, who were 1-18 to 2-3 in front at half-time, while John O’Malley and Leon Thompson also found the net.

Naomh Conaill will play the host club Naomh Abán at 7:30pm tomorrow in the semi-final.
