Donegal ladies learn their fate for All-Ireland quarter-finals

THE quarter-final line-up for the TG4 All-Ireland ladies senior football championship is now complete after Armagh booked their meeting with Donegal in the last eight over the weekend.

Davy McLaughlin’s side won a first ever Ulster SFC last month, courtesy of a 2-11 to 0-10 win over Monaghan in Clones and now must face the only team that they’ve lost to all year – Armagh, with the fixture on Saturday, August 22 at 12:30pm and live on TG4.

Donegal beat Armagh in the opener of the National League Division 2, 1-11 to 1-10 at Glenfin, and subsequently met in the league final where Armagh ran out convincing winners 4-18 to 4-6.

McLaughlin has a serious injury concern following Geraldine McLaughlin’s withdrawal in a club match for Termon against St Eunan’s yesterday.

Champions Cork will tackle Galway next Saturday at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick, with Kerry up against Mayo in a mouthwatering double-header.

A week later, Monaghan will take on Dublin in a clash that pits current Farney County boss Peter Clarke against his former charges, with Donegal and Armagh to meet again in a repeat of their Ulster semi-final.

Kelly Mallon’s goal midway through the second half was key in helping Armagh to advance past dogged Meath in Saturday’s qualifier at Kingspan Breffni Park.

The Orchard County, beaten All-Ireland semi-finalists last year, scored a 1-12 to 0-9 victory over the Leinster runners-up to set up a potential revenge mission against Ulster winners Donegal.
