LETTERKENNY CYCLIST CONOR HALVEY won the Youth Race at the O’Leary Stone Kanturk 3-day event in Cork at the weekend.

Errigal Cycling Club’s Halvey, who is on Cycling Ireland’s Talent Team this year, took the opening stage win on Friday and retained the leader’s jersey throughout the weekend.

It was a close finish, though, with Halvey winning by just a single point from Liam Curley of South East Road Club.

Halvey, a student at St Eunan’s College, was fifth on stage two and second on stage three of the event to come out on top in the overall under-16 boys on general classification points.

Two weeks’ ago, Halvey won the overall under-16 category in Drogheda around the Bellewstown Race Course, while he competed recently with the Irish team in Scotland.

Halvey, who is in his last year as a youth competitor, will be aiming for big things at this summer’s Errigal International Youth Tour in Churchill, which will again attract a big crowd of international cyclists.
