LAGAN HARPS’ ZOE GREEN played the full game as the Republic of Ireland Women’s Under 17s overcame Ukraine 3-0 in Turkey this afternoon.

The Rathmullan native, who plays for Lagan in the Donegal Women’s League, has impressed on international duty in recent months and was named in the starting XI by Dave Bell for today’s opening game in the UEFA European Championship qualifiers .

The Republic of Ireland team before today’s game. Zoe Green is second from right in front row.

Goals from Lauren Kelly, Alex Kavanagh, and Leanne Kiernan helped to secure the win, which gives Ireland an excellent chance of booking their place in the Elite Round and closer to next summer’s finals in Belarus.

“It was a hard-earned result but we had more chances that we could have scored from. I think as the game went on the better we got and we scored three very good goals,” said Bell.

On Saturday, they will take on Andorra – who lost their opening match 5-0 to Turkey – before meeting the hosts next Tuesday as they target top spot in Group 1.
