A week to celebrate for the Keaney siblings as Jack makes Sligo debut and Kate toasts win over Armagh

It has been a week to celebrate for the Keaney siblins, Jack and Kate, from Donegal town.

Jack made his first two appearances for the Sligo Rovers senior team last week, playing the last 20 minutes of the 4-0 win at Ballinamallard last Tuesday.

Keaney was Sligo’s Under-17 Player of the Year in 2016 and will step into the club’s Under-19s this year.

After playing in the friendly win at Ballinamallard, he came on as a late sub in Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park.

A Leaving Certificate student at Abbey Vocational School, Keaney signed for Sligo from his native Donegal Town FC last season and is making good progress at the Showgrounds.

The central midfielder lined out with Sligo in the SSE Airtricity Under-17 League last season and chipped in with a couple of goals throughout the campaign.

On Sunday, his sister, Kate (below), came on as a substitute for the Donegal senior ladies in their Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 1 win over Armagh in Convoy.

Keaney was a late replacement as Micheál Naughton’s team won 4-10 to 0-11.
