OLLIE HORGAN admitted that Finn Harps have ‘a hell of a lot of thinking’ to do after tonight’s narrow loss in Drogheda.

Chris Lyons netted a late goal as Drogheda took the edge in the first leg of the promotion-relegation play-off.

Lyons’ struck in the 92nd minute as Harps felt to defeat. Harps’ Premier Division survival now depends on Friday’s second leg.

“We weren’t good enough,” Horgan said.

“The experience didn’t show and we should have managed that game better.

“If Drogheda score early, we will have a complete mountain to climb and that is the reality. We have a hell of a lot of thinking and work to do.”

Lyons tested Mark Anthony McGinley in the first half, while Drogheda sub Stephen Meaney powered over the crossbar when well placed.

Harps, by contrast, didn’t really threaten until the latter stages. Sub Mikey Place flicked a header off target and Raffaele Cretaro, also in as a replacement, fired against the goal frame.

Horgan said: “It was totally deserved for Drogheda.

“They were by far the better side in the second half in particular. While it took them until the last kick of the game to score, they deserved it – and possibly deserved more.

“We didn’t create a whole lot. We didn’t create enough. We defended relatively well, but it was coming.”

Horgan was sent tp the stand in the 60th minute, but will be in the dugout for Friday’s second leg, when a big crowd is expected to converge on Finn Park.

Horgan said: “We are disappointed with the way we played and we have to be a hell of a lot better at home to have any chance of stay in Division. We are delighted to be still in it, albeit by a thread.”
