MICHAEL Murphy says Donegal have to shake their heads clear from Sunday’s disappointing defeat to Galway.
Donegal blew a seven-point lead against the Tribesmen, who hit two second-half goals in a big turnaround.
Two weeks ago, Donegal saw Mayo’s James Durcan score a last-minute goal to snatch a draw. On Sunday, Ciaran Thompson both missed late frees with opportunities to earn Donegal a share of the spoils.
“We’ve no one but ourselves to blame,” Murphy said.
“We were in a strong position. You have to stick to the task for the entire game.
“The goals hit us at a stage where we had looked very comfortable and we have to look at that.
“We tried to rally towards the end and we got ourselves in for a chance. I missed a free when we might have at least got a point out of it.”
Thompson netted a second Donegal goal in the early stages of the second half after Murphy scored from a penalty in the first period.
However, Donegal would pay as Johnny Heaney and Séan Kelly bagged Galway’s goals with the sin-binning of Donegal defender Paul Brennan also proving crucial to proceedings.
Murphy said: “Seven points up, you expect to close out the game. We didn’t do that.
“We were a little wasteful with chances at the start of the second-half as well.
“All we can do now it push it on again. We’ll have more bodies back into the mix hopefully.”
Donegal have no game this weekend but take on Dublin at Croke Park on Saturday-week.
Murphy said: “We can’t dwell on it. We have to get ready to go again now in a fortnight’s time against Dublin.”
“We’ve young lads in there that are doing very well and we’ll have a few more established players coming back in too to lift the thing.”
