Tyler Toland was undaunted by the big stage last night and was one of the stars of the show as the Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 away to defending European champions the Netherlands.

At just 16, Toland was into the lion’s dell, but Colin Bell’s decision to include her was totally vindicated by a display of real maturity.

In the tenth minute, Toland blocked off the line from a dangerous Dutch corner, which Stefanie van der Gragt thought she had converted.

Off the line!!!
Brilliant from 16-year-old Tyler Toland. Don't forget you can watch the game in full over at https://t.co/ujNLuioJ2c. #IRLWNT #COYGIG pic.twitter.com/bSg0sPKH9J

Soon after, the St Johnston woman was at it again as she headed off the goal-line to keep the sheet clean and again frustrated van der Gragt.

Off the line again!

Naturally, Toland’s display stood out for observers and the world of Twitter was alight with glowing messages about the Deele College student’s display:

Thats a massive result for #IRLWNT Will do wonders for their confidence going forward. Only 16 but Donegals Tyler Toland has some future ahead of her. Superb game #COYGIG

Tyler Toland played in April for @faischools in the Bob Doherty Tournament and now has two full games at senior level, inspiration to all young female players

Some performance from Tyler Toland for Ireland against the Netherlands. Only 16 but to play the way she did, no fear at all, absolutely superb. This was one of two clearances she made off the line in the first half. ??? https://t.co/0iu10F69pG
