Watch: Oisin Orr reflects on another super season in the saddle

AHEAD of the finale of the flat season at Naas this weekend, Oisin Orr says he’s delighted with how he has progressed.

Orr, the 2019 Champion Apprentice jockey, won the Comer Group International Irish St Leger in September at The Curragh on the Dermot Weld-trained Search For A Song.

It was the biggest win of the Donegal man’s career and he has 34 winners to date in an interrupted 2020.

“I just wanted, the same as any year, to do the best I can and ride as many winners as I can,” Orr, speaking to Johnny Ward in an interview for Horse Racing Ireland, said.

“That was the aim at the start of the year – and it has been a great year.”

Orr has struck a successful partnership with legendary trainer Weld having cut his teeth first with Joanna Morgan and then Eddie Lynam.

Orr is among a raft of Donegal jockeys who are flying at the moment with the likes of Martin Harley, Dylan Browne-McMonagle, Luke McAteer and Oisin’s brother Conor all regulars in winners’ enclosures.

Orr’s finest win so far was his September success on Search For A Song.

He said: “I had to pinch myself. It was a great opportunity to get.

““She has got a lot better. I rode her a few times last year and she was very, very keen. With the hood, it switches her off a lot better and she’s settling down mentally.

“Mr Weld just gives a base on what he wants you to do and you just try to do it.  Everything went to plan and she picked up to win the race nicely.”
