Watch: Oisin Gallen talks U21 win and AFL experience

OISIN GALLEN says that Sean MacCumhaills have an ‘exciting future’ if they can harness the young talent in the club.

Gallen hit six points as the Twin Towns side overcame Ardara 2-19 to 1-7 in the Under-21 Championship on Saturday.

Goals by Carl Dunnion and Chad McSorely gave the Finnsiders a comfortable win.

“It’s good to get the campaign off to a good start,” Gallen told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It was cagey out there, but it’s good to get the win. We wanted to get scores on the board early and make a bit of a statement.”

With the likes of Alex McGeehan, Joe Boyle and Ryan Finn absent, MacCumhaills could be encouraged by the landslide win and the performances of the likes of teenage defender Peter Byrne.

Gallen said: “That was his first taste and he stepped up no problem. It’s exciting for the club with young boys like that coming through.”

Gallen recently spent two weeks in Australia at an AFL Draft Combine,

He said: “It was a good two weeks. It’s a different set-up and a different environment. I was happy enough to get out there and take it all in.”
