Mark English was in impressive form at the Athlone International Grand Prix tonight.

English won the 800m in 1:46.94 – his quickest indoor time in four years.

The Letterkenny man delivered a fine display that served as a reminder of his talents ahead of this weekend’s National Indoor Championships.

Next month, English will be targeting a medal at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

Having won his race at the IFAM indoor meeting in Ghent at the weekend, English roared to victory tonight in Athlone.

English finished ahead of Erik Sowinski (1:47.64) and fellow Irishman Zak Curran (1:47.73).

Finn Valley AC’s Sommer Lecky, who won in Ghent on Saturday, cleared the high jump at 1.70 metres, but knocked the bar at 1.80m. The gold there went to Tatiana Gusin from Greece (1.87m) with Ireland’s Phillippa Rogan (1.84m) taking silver and bronze going Ximena Lizbeth Esquivel from Mexico (1.80m).
