Jason Quigley showed this morning just why his army of supporters is growing by the week.
A week after moving to 14-0 as a professional, the Ballybofey boxer was on SaturdayAM on TV3 this morning to reflect on his latest win and talk about his career.
Quigley delved a little deeper, though, and, among other things, spoke about the mental challenges, the issue of social media ‘popularity’ and Conor McGregor’s latest headline-making escapade in New York.
Quigley recently upped sticks from his Los Angeles base to move to Sheffield, where he now trains under Dominic Ingle.
“A lot of people put there will look at social media and at pictures of me winning fights in all these places and it looks amazing and they think it’s such great life,” Quigley, who beat Daniel Rosario last Saturday in Boston, said.
“But the next day, maybe I was sitting in the apartment on my own crying, missing family, missing home. It’s not all glamorous, sunshine and rainbows.”
Quigley’s comments will certainly strike a cord and the Irish middleweight highlighted how social media has become a contest in popularity.
To that end, Quigley said that McGregor’s actions in New York this week were ‘a disgrace’.
He said: “The amount of young children that look up to that man; whatever he touches, whatever he looks like or smells like, the young kids want to be that. I think it’s a disgrace what he’s done. Kids will look at this and think it’s cool and that’s the way to act.”
