DONEGAL goalkeeper Shaun Patton has spoken of the ‘baptism of fire’ having just recently joined the ranks of An Garda Síochána.

Patton had just passed out from Templemore and began working in Navan when the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus sent the world into a spiral.

The Letterkenny man joined Nathan Murphy on Off The Ball on Thursday night to discuss his introduction to the force at this time.

“My first two weeks was a baptism of fire, the place was fairly hectic and busy. nobody had a lot of time to give you much advice,” Patton said.

“Although the unit that I am working with, they are all fantastic people and I’ve grown quite close to them over the last number of weeks.

“It’s something you have to do because you’re working 12 hour days at this stage and they’re doing whatever they can to help you on top of the workload they are balancing.”

Patton also talked of settling in at Navan and how he and the Donegal squad are managing to keep on top of things during the lockdown.
