Watch: Bonagee United captain Jamie Lynagh on Intermediate win over Fanad

Bonagee United captain Jamie Lynagh believes today’s Intermediate Cup win at Fanad United can spur the Dry Arch men on.

Bonagee lost 5-3 to Bonagee in the League Cup on the season’s opening day, but hit back with an impressive 3-1 away win at Triagh-A-Loch to advance into round two of the Intermediate Cup.
Lynagh was in the thick of the action, scoring one and setting up another as Tony O’Carroll’s men came out on top.

“It was a great win,” Lynagh said.

“Fanad is never an easy place to come and get a result, so we’re delighted to come away with a win, especially against a tough Fanad side. Hopefully we can kick on in this competition now.

“We knew that our first half against Letterkenny wasn’t good enough so we took the positives from the second half that day and tried to fix it.

“It’s very encouraging.”

Lynagh opened the scoring and provided the assist for Matty Harkin to net the second – all in the first 22 minutes.

Lynagh said: “We had a great start, but that was our plan coming down here. We knew we could get in behind them and our game plan was effective. It worked a treat.

“it was nice to get on the scoresheet.

“We got in at half-time, got the heads together again. The plan was to kill the game off.”

Davitt Walsh pulled a goal back for Fanad, but Bonagee shook the heads clear and Dean Larkin struck just three minutes later.

Lynagh said: “We showed fantastic character. I think other Bonagee teams over the years might have put the heads down and lost that game. We have great team spirit and it showed.”
