PROFESSIONAL BOXER Jason Quigley took to the ring in Raphoe this week – with local councillor Frank McBrearty Junior.

McBrearty launched his General Election candidacy at the Raphoe Boxing Club gym in the company of family and friends, among the Quigley who is home on a break from Los Angeles.

McBrearty has been a strong supporter of Quigley – now 9-0 as a professional with his next bout confirmed for Indio in March – during his career and the Ballybofey man took the election candidate into the ring for a round on the pads.

“Frank has been there from day one in Finn Valley Boxing Club, he’s a past boxer and you can see his love of sport,” Quigley said.

“He has always been there for me if I ever needed anything. I’ve always liked Frank, not only because he is a close family friend having boxed with my father, Conor, but also, I think he is great man. You know where you stand with Frank. He will always let you know the truth and that’s the kind of person I like to be around.”

McBrearty was a keen boxer in his youth and won an Ulster title for Raphoe ABC – and he showed his prowess with Quigley on the pads.
