Video: Croke Park’s emotional tribute to the victims of the Buncrana tragedy

DUBLIN AND DONEGAL supporters united as one last night at Croke Park to pay tribute to the five people who tragically lost their lives last Sunday in Buncrana.

Five people were lost when their car slipped off the pier in Buncrana and were named  as 46-year-old Sean McGrotty, sons Mark (12) and Evan (8), his mother-in-law Ruth Daniels (57) and daughter Jodie Lee, 15.

Last night at Croke Park in the Allianz League Division 1 fixture, in which Dublin overcame Donegal 1-10 to 0-7, the 20,340 in attendance gave an ovation in the fifth minute for those who sadly passed.

The concept came from the Dubs Supporters page on Facebook. Before the game they said:

Good evening Dubs. As everyone is now well aware, the Donegal seaside town of Buncrana was the scene of a tragic accident resulting in the deaths of 5 people, including three children on Sunday evening.

The lads on the all Dublin GAA fans page have suggested that in the fifth minute of Saturday evenings game against Donegal the whole stadium should stand up as one with a minutes applause in honour of those who perished. We here on the Dubs supporters page would like to appeal to everyone of you present on Saturday to join in and support this very fine gesture. Tragedies like this make you realise how precious life really is.
