POSTPONED from earlier in the year due to the lockdown, the Mini League at Buncrana Golf Club recommenced last weekend.

The competition got underway where it left off back in March – at the semi-fnal stages.

Martin and Cormac Doherty progressed to the final after a titanic battle with Graham Donaghy and Gerard Harkin which went all the way to the third tie hole.

Tony Hegarty and Kevin McGrath made the final after they dispensed JP McConnell and Sean Cronin 6/5 in their semi.
The final was always going to be a very interesting affair, with two very in form pairings.

Tony and Kevin our present Winter League Champions and the inform uncle and nephew partnership of Cormac and Martin.

It was Cormac and Martin who made the early break for home and got themselves into two shot lead and were always going to be difficult to beat from that position and this proved the case as Martin and Cormac closed the match out with a fine 4/3 victory over a very good pairing and worthy finalists.

Evan hits Form to take the Frank Callaghan Memorial Open

The competition last Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July was the Frank Callaghan Memorial which is sponsored by Callaghan Jewellers Buncrana. There was a tremendous turnout for this competition and the scoring was more reflective of the course playing hard with the rough thickening up and some tight pin positions.

The best score of the weekend was returned by 20 handicapper Evan Doherty who played some very consistent golf over the 18 holes to shoot a very impressive 43 points.  The full results of the Frank Callaghan Memorial are as follows: 1st Evan Doherty (20) 43 points, 2nd Michael King (10) 42 points, Gross Christopher Mc Callion (3) 65 gross, 3rd Michael V Dessel (12) 39 points b.o.t. Best Day Martin McGrath (21) (Sun) 38 points b.o.t., Visitor Michael Mc Cann (Jnr) (14) 35 points b.o.t.  and Back 9 Karl King (12) 22 points – C.S.S. 65 / 37 points

Super Scoring by Emmet Doherty to win the James Hegarty Memorial Open

Last week’s midweek competition was the James Hegarty Memorial Open Stableford and this competition was sponsored by Hegarty’s Home Interiors Buncrana. Once again there were some fantastic scores returned. The best score of the day and probably the year so far was 47 points returned by Emmet Doherty. Emmet played some outstanding golf over the front 9 to shoot 26 points and managed to hold his game together over the back 9 to shoot another 21 points to amass his winning total of 47 points.

The full results of the James Hegarty Memorial Open Stableford are as follows; 1st Emmet Doherty (13) 47 points, 2nd Caolan Mc Gonagle (24) 45 points b.o.t., Gross Tony Hegarty (8) 65 gross, 3rd John Doherty (7) 42 points b.o.t., Best Day Ciaran Doherty (Thurs) (21) 40 points b.o.t., Visitor Cliff Malone (7) 34 points and Back 9 David Mc Geough (4) 23 points b.o.t. – C.S.S. 64 / 38points.
