WHATEVER LINGERING HOPES the Ulster Senior League of winning a third successive FAI Intermediate Inter League Cup evaporated on Saturday afternoon.

Following Friday night’s 2-1 loss at the hands of the Munster Senior League, this afternoon Donal O’Brien’s side were 2-0 up before going down to a 3-2 loss against the Connacht Football Association at Green Market.

The reigning champions (pictured above by Stephen Doherty) took an early two-goal lead through Christy McLaughlin and Laurence Toland.

However, Connacht got back into the game before half-time when Joe Lawless was on target. Then, former Athlone Town defender Des Hope levelled before Ethan Keogh of Skyvalley Rovers fired home a screamer to give Connacht a memorable victory.

On Sunday, it’s the Leinster Senior League against the Ulster Senior League at Baldonnel, kicking off at 11pm, while Munster, who have six points from two outings, face Connacht at Greenogue.

Ulster Senior League: Eugene Ferry, Shay Dunlop, Peter Doherty, Jack Blake, Johnny Bonner, Mark Moran, Paul McVeigh, Malachy McDermott, Christopher McLaughlin, Mark Forker, Laurence Toland.
