Twitter just loves Ireland’s ‘born leader’ Seamus Coleman

SEAMUS COLEMAN gave another showing of just why he’s the perfect fit for the Republic of Ireland captaincy – and Twitter loved the passion of the Killybegs man.

Coleman, named as captain by Martin O’Neill for the World Cup qualifying campaign, was hoarse as he spoke following what he called a ‘massive’ 1-0 win over Austria in Vienna.

James McClean’s goal early in the second half gave Ireland their first win over Austria since 1963 and sees the Boys in Green top of the Group D table.

“Very proud, but not surprised of the effort and determination of these lads,” Coleman said after famous win.

“It’s a privilage coming away every time with the squad. You know they’ll work so hard and keep going to the very end.

“It’s great to play with these lads because they’ll leave everything out there.

“I’m just happy to play a part in winning and happy to be part of this team.”

Coleman, winning his 42nd cap last night, had scored Ireland’s winner against Georgia in Dublin last month and was one of only two starters who began Ireland’s last qualifier in Vienna, a 1-0 loss in September 2013 that marked the end of Giovanni Trapattoni’s last game as Irish boss.

With O’Neill as manager and Coleman as captain, Ireland have enjoyed the new era – and the Irish support has warmed to the new skipper:

Anyone talking about how "great" McGregor's post-fight interview was last night needs to watch Seamus Coleman on RTE in Vienna.
