TOWNEY WILL THIS evening play host to the top of the table clash in the AllSportStore.com All-County Football League Division 1, 7:30pm.

Kilcar and Gaoth Dobhair are currently locked on 20 points at the summit of the table and although Martin McHugh’s side have a better scoring difference (+120 compared to +56 of Gaoth Dobhair), the fact the side from Magheragallon won the previous meeting means they shade it right now.

That 3-4 to 0-12 win came in April, with Gavin McBride netting three goals in what was a starred fixture the evening before Donegal took on Dublin in the Allianz League Division 1 semi-final at Croke Park.

Gaoth Dobhair have lost just twice this season, 3-8 to 0-11 at St Michael’s in May and 3-18 to 0-4 at Naomh Conaill in June. There’s also been draws at home to St Eunan’s, 3-14 apiece, and at Glenswilly, 0-8 to 0-8.

The Gaeltacht-based team held the longest unbeaten of any of the 10 combatants in the top flight, lasting until their ninth outing.

Kilcar, for their part, went down 1-16 to 1-13 last month at home to St Michael’s and also lost to the same opposition away from home in June, 0-11 to 0-10, as well as the aforementioned reversal at Gaoth Dobhair.

At home, Kilcar have been in explosive scoring form. They defeated Glenswilly 3-19 to 0-9, put up a 2-22 to 1-15 scoreline to win against St Eunan’s, hammered Termon 1-16 to 0-5, blitzed Naomh Conaill 3-16 to 0-7, hammered Ardara 4-16 to 0-10 and overcame Dungloe 1-20 to 2-5.

Therefore they’ve been averaging 23.85 points per match at home.

In the last weekend of fixtures before the Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Donegal SFC kicks back into action, both sides will want to maintain their decent form.

Kilcar, who drew at St Eunan’s in the opening Group B fixture welcome a St Michael’s side who’ve got the better of them twice in the league this season. Meanwhile, Gaoth Dobhair, after beating Four Masters first time out, are aiming to make it two from two when they travel to current champions, Naomh Conaill.
