It’s time to cast you vote for Sports Person of the Week – in association with O’Reilly’s

It’s time for you to help select this week’s Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub Sports Person of the Week, in association with O’Reilly’s Sportswear.

Each weekly award winner will receive a kitbag, a jersey and a half-zip, supplied by O’Reilly’s.

The award winner will be chosen via a public vote from a shortlist selected by our panel.

O’Reilly’s Sportswear was founded in 2017 by well-known Twin Towns sporting brothers Steven and Martin O’Reilly.

Our poll closes at noon on Thursday.

Dylan Browne-McMonagle (Letterkenny jockey)

Yet again, Dylan Browne-McMonagle features here. He was a winner in our first poll and has been nominated since, but there could be no escaping for him this week after a history-making weekend in Dingle. 

For the third year in a row, the Letterkenny teenager was the Champion Jockey at the Dingle Race Festival – after taking a whopping NINE winners.

Niall Campbell (Burt)

When Burt trailed Sean MacCumhaills by six points in Saturday’s Donegal SHC semi-final, few would’ve stood Burt much of a chance of a comeback. But back they went – as they reeled off 1-9 in succession to topple MacCumhaills and advance to the final.

Campbell was to the fore in the second half. The veteran forward’s goal, in the 49th minute, had Burt ahead for the first time since the opening minutes. Campbell ended with 1-5 to his name and was one of the reasons that Burt are final-bound again.

Caitriona Jennings (Letterkenny AC)

Caitriona Jennings returned to winning ways on Sunday. The Letterkenny AC runner won the National Half Marathon Championship in Dublin.

Jennings led the way in a superb time of one hour, 22 minutes and 25 seconds. 

The Letterkenny woman – who was an Olympian in 2012 – was 29 seconds faster than her nearest challenger. 

Oisin Harkin (Termon)

Last Monday night in Glenswilly, Termon overcame Sean MacCumhaill to win the U14 Division 1 League final.

Oisin Harkin was the star of the show for Termon. Harkin landed an excellent 1-7 for the Burn Road side and led the way with a fine performance as Termon continued their fine run of form at underage level.

Niamh McDonald (Greencastle FC)

Greencastle put a cat among the pigeons on Thursday night in the North West Women’s Super League with a 5-2 win over Bonagee United at Chapel Lane. Niamh McDonald bagged four of the goals for Greencastle in a ruthless display.

Bonagee couldn’t match the pace and precision of McDonald, who struck like a dagger through their hearts. 

And McDonald was back on the scoresheet again on Sunday as Greencastle repeated the scoreline – this time after extra time in the Ulster Cup.

Shane McNamee (Derry City)

Derry City hit Blarney United for 12 on Saturday evening in the FAI Cup, with the Candystripes showing no mercy for a 12-2 win. 

The game was notable for a few record-breaking reasons but, more pertinently, for one young Ramelton man, the Cup tie will be remembered for his first senior goals.

Shane McNamee – younger brother of Barry and Tony – came on as a substitute in the rout and netted twice. Derry boss Kenny Shiels is a big admirer of McNamee – who is off the mark now in senior football.

Sam Todd (Finn Harps)

Getting Carndonagh man Sam Todd on loan from Derry City has been one of the better pieces of business by Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan this season. The centre-back was key as Harps kept six clean sheets on the bounce before Bray Wanderers managed to breach their rearguard on Friday night.

But Harps overcame the Premier Division side 3-1 after extra time in the FAI Cup tie.

Todd, again, was one of the goalscorers for Harps. It was Todd’s goal, just after the hour mark, that sent the game to extra time. Todd now has five goals for the season.
