Three from Donegal included as Ireland women set to face Slovakia

Three Donegal players have been included in the Republic of Ireland Women’s senior squad for the FIFA 2019 World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

Roma McLaughlin, Tyler Toland and Amber Barrett are all on the squad.

Ireland travel to Slovakia for the qualifier at the National Training Centre in Senec, Slovakia on Tuesday, October 24th.

16-year-old Toland (above) from St Johnston – who plays for Maiden City FC – came on as a sub in the recent 2-0 win over Northern Ireland at Mourneview, creating a piece of history in the process, becoming Ireland’s youngest senior international.

Like Toland, Milford woman Barrett – who plays in the Women’s National League with Peamount United – made her Irish senior debut in that game against Northern Ireland.

Shelbourne ladies player McLaughlin, from Greencastle, was suspended for the win over Northern Ireland, but makes her return for this one.

“It is going to be a tough match for us but it’s important we go into the game looking to build off that positivity from our performance in Northern Ireland and keep pushing forward in our qualification campaign,” Ireland manager Dave Bell said.
