REIGNING COMÓRTAS PEIL NA GAELTACHTA champions Naomh Conaill will host this year’s Donegal competition.

Martin Regan’s team (pictured above) added the national title to the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta SFC last October following their victory over Kilcar in Ardara the rescheduled final in October – the initial competition on June Bank Holiday weekend had to abandoned due to poor weather.

Kilcar, interestingly, face fellow All-County Football League Division 1 side Gaoth Dobhair in the preliminary round in what will be the Towney side’s first game under the management of Martin McHugh.

Naomh Conaill automatically qualify for the finals, to be held on the May Bank Holiday weekend at Davy Brennan Memorial Park.

Naomh Conaill defeated Gaoth Dobhair in the county final last May. The All-Ireland final, in Ardara, was postponed to October from its original June date because of weather.

The draws were made last night at a meeting in the Highlands Hotel in Glenties, but the senior draw had to be re-drawn.

Last night, Milford were only included in the junior section but with the Moyle View side now playing in Division 2 of the All-County Football League they must participate in the senior Comórtas Peile na Gaelachta. The junior draw stays as it was with Milford’s reserves participating. Downings are the holders of the county and All-Ireland junior titles and begin with a home tie against Cloughaneely.
