JASON QUIGLEY has been named as Irish-boxing.com’s Breakthrough of the Year in the boxing site’s 2016 awards, which have been announced.

The Ballyofey middleweight, who is 12-0 as a professional in America, had three wins in 2016, including big triumphs over James De La Rosa and Jorgé Melendez that have marked him out as one to watch in his division.

The Irish Post named Quigley as their ‘Prospect of the Year’ while ESPN.com listed the rising Golden Boy ace as one of their top prospects for 2017.

Quigley will return to action in late February or early March in the States.

The former Finn Valley ABC star is the ‘Breakthrough of the Year’. Irish-boxing.com said: “The Donegal middleweight raced through his first ten opponents, but took a step up in class this year against gatekeepers James De La Rosa and Jorge Melendez.

“Quigley would rise to the challenge with a ten-round schooling and a first round blowout respectively and now looks posed to enter world title contention in the near future.”
