THERE is widespread sadness following the sudden death of Donegal ETB Board member and GAA administrator Noel Rodden.

Noel, a native of Creeslough, died suddenly on Tuesday.

Noel was a teacher, based in Lifford, and served on the Board of the Donegal Education and Training Board since 2014.

From Massinass, Creeslough, Noel was a stalwart of the St Michael’s GAA club. A loyal follower of his beloved St Michael’s, Noel was also an ardent Donegal supporter and had a regular spot on the terrace adjacent to the press box at Sean Mac Cumhaill Park.

Noel was a former Donegal GAA referee and a long-time administrator in the St Michael’s club, who paid tribute.

The club said in a statement: “Yesterday afternoon as the tragic news filtered through our parish that the sudden death had take place of our club stalwart Noel Rodden; we can only say that we are all numbed by the sudden departure of Wee Noel as he was known to us all.

“At this time we send our deepest sympathy to Noel’s extended family and to his extended GAA family of which he was greatly respected as a person and as a former  official. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam.”

Castlefin-based Sinn Féin County Councillor Gary Doherty served alongside Noel on the ETB. Cllr Doherty said: “Noel was a tireless advocate for staff and students as representative of the TUI, and was most respected for his work at Lifford Youthreach and he will be sadly missed by us all.”
