On what was a cold and frosty start to the weekend Cranford made the journey to the Meadowbank  Sports Arena in Magherafelt for the Ulster Indoor Championships which is run over two days.

First up on Saturday were our U/12’s with Oisin McNulty who had a great jump in the long jump getting his personal best and a good run in the 600m fighting to the line.

Aidan McFadden also competed in the long jump and 600m. Aidan did very well coming back to his fine form again.

Clodagh Neely ran in the 600m with a fine performance just fading coming up the home straight. Well done to these young Athletes who competed in their first Ulster indoors.

Cian McMenamin was up next in the 600m and looks like he is on his way back to form.

Next was Oisin Kelly who had a great day, he came second in the long jump and 3rd in the 800m qualifying now for the Nationals in Athlone later this year.

Oran McMenamin was also in good form and pushed the pace over the 800m in the Boys U/14.

Sunday got off to a great start with Teresa Mullen taking Gold in the long jump, Teresa is now Ulster champion and will go through to the Nationals.

Then it was time for our shot putters with Orla Neely up first. Orla had a good throw in the Girls U/13. Allan Neely was up next giving it’s his best improving all the time. Oran McMenamin had to make the journey back up on Sunday to compete in the shot and had a very good throw over 5m with the heavier shot this year.

Best for Cranford in the shot was Aoife Giles with a very good throw of 10.79m getting herself a silver medal. Aoife is now through to the Nationals.

It was then back to the track for our last two races of the day with Molly Trearty and Johnny McGroddy in the U/16 1500m.

Molly got off to a great start and stayed with the leaders for 3 laps of the 5-lap race, she fought hard and kept in contention finishing a respectable 6th place.

Johnny took to the track then and what a great race for Johnny coming from the Cross Country to the track kept up with the leading pace throughout the race and came home in second place earning himself a silver medal. Johnny has now qualified for the Nationals.

Well done to all of our zthletes who took part over the two day event.

Thanks to the Coaches Eamon Giles, Ernie McElhinney and Rose Gavaghan and to the parents
