Students awarded next belts at Letterkenny Shotokan Karate Club grading

Letterkenny Shotokan Karate Clubs held a grading in the Aura Leisure Centre last Saturday, December 16.

Students from White Belt to Brown Double White Belt took part in a test to obtain their next belt.

The following students were successful and awarded their next Belt.

9th kyu – Orange belt: Aoibhinn Gallagher , Aoibhinn  Keys, Igor Slymanowicz, Isaac Hay, Dev Nandan Privesh and Megha Manoj Thampi.

8th kyu – Red belt : Georgia Martin, Powell Jaison, Rishon Sojan, Neil Augustine, Evan Ward, Anika Benny, Hugh mcFadden and Finn Boyle.

6th kyu – Green belt : Aoife Gallagher.

5th kyu – Purple  Belt : Adam Savva and Oran Mulligan.

4th kyu – Purple White belt : Eimear mc Dermott and Manoj Radhakrishnan.

2nd kyu – Brown White belt : Alanna Patterson.

1st kyu – Brown Double White : Damien mcGlynn, Brian mcGlynn, Cian Mulligan and Ronan Padmore.

Awards were also presented for Students of the year. Junior Student of the year went to Aoife Gallagher, Intermediate Student of the year went to Thomas Roulston and Brian Mc Glynn received and award for Senior Student of the year.

Medals for Improvement were awarded to Hugh Dusty Mc Fadden, Damien mcGlynn, Eimear mcDermott, Hannah Patterson, Niall Quinn and Cormac Quinn. Well done to all students. Keep up the good work. 

Next year Sensei John Wilkie will be celebrating 40 years of involvement with the Letterkenny shotokan karate club, 1978 – 2018.

The Club will be hosting an Open Karate Course on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th February 2018 in the Aura Leisure Centre, Letterkenny, where World Karate champion Sensei Scott Langley, 6th Dan (HDKI) will be in attendance.

The Club will also be holding a Competition in March 2018 and a Dan Grading (for Black Belts) in June 2018. It’s going be a busy year for the club.

The club would like to give special thanks to Sensei Chris O’Donnell for all his help at the club through the year.
