Two of the Four Lanterns Ulster Senior League title chasers have been dealt striking blows.
Champions Cockhill Celtic will not have the services of frontman Garbhan Friel for the remainder of the season while Letterkenny Rovers have bid adieu to Sean McCarron.
Friel, who had a couple of spells at Finn Harps and a stint at Institute, is moving to Dubai for 2018.
The big striker has been central to Cockhill’s success in recent years with the last five League and Cup doubles making their ways to the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds.
Friel, though, will not be a part of their bid to retain their crowns and will be absent when Gavin Cullen’s team take on Home Farm in the next round of the FAI Intermediate Cup next month.
McCarron has been in a rich spell of form for Letterkenny this season since signing for Eamon McConigley’s outfit in the summer.
The ex-Harps man had really found his feet, but has confirmed that he is moving to Irish League Championship side Institute.
McCarron’s departure will come as a big blow to Rovers ahead of both their title tilt and their Intermediate Cup tie at Cherry Orchard in January.
‘Stute are just three points off leaders Ballyclare and Paddy McLaughlin’s men have two games i hand.
McCarron was believed to have had interest from Harps again, but the player will ply his trade at Institute for the remainder of the season.
