ST MARY’S NS, Stranorlar pupil Emily Kelly has Ireland’s fastest feet – and will travel to the prestigious Millrose Games in New York on Friday.

The third-class pupil, a member of Finn Valley AC, won the county finals of the competition and in Athlone in December won the national final.

As the winner of the final in Athlone, Emily will be flown to New York along with her parents and her big sister.

In New York, she will be hosted by legendary runner and Irish mile record holder Ray Flynn.

The highlight of Emily’s trip to New York will be a chance to run against the fastest girls in New York City at the Millrose Games.

This is the 110th year of the most prestigious indoor track meet on the calendar. Otherwise known as the indoor Olympics, the meet showcases superstars of athletics, Olympic medallists, Worls Champions and record holders.

She will also have the honour of meeting Irish man Eamonn Coughlan, a 3-time Olympian and former World Champion in the 5,000m.

Patsy McGonagle, who has led the Irish Athletics team to four Olympic Games as manager, was in St Mary’s NS today to wish Emily all the best in the Big Apple.
