Stephen Kenny: ‘I wouldn’t write Finn Harps off just yet’

Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny says he believes Finn Harps can still survive in the Premier Division.

After a 2-0 defeat to Dundalk last evening in Ballybofey, Harps are now four points from safety with just three games remaining.

However, Kenny says Ollie Horgan’s men can claw their way to safety.

“I still wouldn’t tule them out,” Kenny said.

“It’s one of the best sides that Finn Harps have had since Charlie McGeever’s time here.

“I think they have a lot of good players. They have a good spirit and I wouldn’t write them off.”

Goals by Brian Gartland and Jamie McGrath in the second half earned Dundalk a battling win in Ballybofey.

Dundalk needed to win to ensure that Cork City weren’t crowned champions.

“It was important for us,” Kenny said.

“We’ve been champions for the last three years so it was important not to surrender our title like that – tamely. The players showed a good attitude.

“We had to manage the squad somewhat, but we kept a clean sheet which gave us a platform to go and win the game really well.”
