THERE WILL be an all-Donegal heavyweight decider tonight at the Ulster Senior Championships.
Dungloe ABC’s Dennis O’Donnell and Illies Golden Gloves’ Michael McConigley clash in an eagerly-awaited showdown.
McConigley last night was an impressive victor over Dean McCabe from Newry in a heavyweight semi-final.
McConigley swept the boards to claim a unanimous decision from the judges.
And now tonight at the Dockworkers Club, McConigley meets O’Donnell, who has returned to the ring after a long absence.
O’Donnell is a former Irish intermediate champion finalist.
In 2011, O’Donnell was the national 81kg champion and is is back through the ropes competitively for the first time in eight years.
Donegal will also have involvement in the light-heavyweight final.
Oran Shields dispatched Clone’s Darren McNally with a unanimous verdict last night. Shields will face Jack Doherty of St Joseph’s in tonight’s final.
Donegal’s newest club, Lifford Boxing Club, will have a finalist as Barry McGinty squares up to Craig Boucher at middleweight.
The Ballindrait man received a bye into the final as Owen O’Rourke, his planned opponent, withdrew.
Illies Golden Gloves’ Caroline Gallagher has been awarded a walkover win in the light-welterweight class and is guaranteed at least one title for the county heading into tonight.
