St Johnston’s ‘Mini Saints’ book place in Under-11 final

THE St Johnston Under-11 ‘Mini Saints’ are through to the final of the North-West Under-11 Cup after a superb win over Ballyspallen on Friday evening.

St Johnston, (pictured above), who had beaten Killyclooney and Coleraine in their previous outings in the competition, opted to bat first and the Donegal side reached 157 for the fall of just three wickets in their 20 overs.

They were led by a real captain’s display from their skipper, Scott Macbeth. The opening batsman made a 67 total that included 11 fours before he was run out.

Sam Macbeth was caught and bowled by Curry early on, but Kyhat Bhavsar’s unbeaten 31 helped steer St Johnston beyond the century while Luke Magee only fell on the second last ball. Magee had 33 to his name before he was bowled out by Wilson.

The St Johnston bowlers didn’t let Ballyspallen settle at all with Sam McKnight (4-1-14-1) and Scott Macbeth (4-1-12-2) in superb form while Harry Pearson bowled well, too, with Bhavsar claiming two wickets.

The St Johnston team, which is looked after by David Macbeth and Stewart Lapsley, are now looking forward to the final on August 7.
