St Johnston’s Macbeth brothers selected on Irish squads

TWO BROTHERS from St Johnston Cricket Club have been selected on Irish youth squads, which were announced today.

Ryan and Scott Macbeth are among 22 players from the North-West Cricket Union to be chosen by Irish coaches.

Letterkenny Institute of Technology student Ryan MacBeth is a specialist bowler who made his debut for St Johnston’s senior team when he was just 13.

He marked himself out as one to watch on that first outing as he claimed five wickets against Burndennett for the loss of only 30 runs.

Two years ago, he was with the Ireland squad for the ICC European Under-15 Championships.

Younger brother Scott (pictured below) has earned himself a call up to the Under-13 panel.

This year, he was to the fore as captain when St Johnston won the North-West Under-11 Cup, scoring an unbeaten 69 against Strabane in the final.

The bloodlines decreed that they were destined to carve out good careers at the crease.

Their father, Ian, is one of three Macbeth siblings on the St Johnston team, alongside Alan (the senior captain) and David.

Their grandmother, Audrey Macbeth, played for the Ireland ladies team. Audrey’s brother, Roy Torrens, is the manager of the Irish senior men’s team.
