St Johnston handed tough away tie in Senior Cup as top trio depart

ST JOHNSTON have lost three of their top players following their relegation to the North-West Championship.

Donegal’s only cricket club showed some promising signs this summer, but it wasn’t enough for the Railway Road men to stave off the cold finger of relegation from the Premiership.

A gallant fight stopped just short and they have been dealt a big blow following the news that Ryan Macbeth (pictured above), Khushpal Singh and Kevin Martin will all be moving on.

Talented 18-year-old bowler Macbeth has signed for Brigade. Macbeth is regarded as one of the top players in the North-West and with ambitions of getting into the Ireland underage ranks, he has opted to part ways with St Johnston.

There are close family links to Beechgrove, which has prompted his transfer.

Singh was one of St Johnston’s more consistent players this summer and it is thought that he’ll line out for Strabane next summer with wicket-keeper Kevin Martin going to Ardmore.

Meanwhile, St Johnston have been drawn away to Leinster League Division 2 side Phoenix in the 2016 Irish Senior Cup. The draw was made earlier today and the game will take place on May 7th at Phoenix Park.
