Dylan Browne McMonagle edged closer to the record number of winners for a season as he hit the 70-winner mark with a sparkling treble.

Top class rider Jack Kennedy holds the record that stands at 76 and with four meetings left to go up and down the country it’s going to be pretty close by the end of September.

Former Dingle Derby winner Ida’s Dream took the opener in Ramelton the 2 mile open for Sam Ewing in great style.

Five Stone Of Lead gave Browne McMonagle his first of the day in the 148cm pony race.

The teenager soon doubled up in the ten furlong open but had to work over time to get Athea Jade over the line under his welter burden.

Sam Ewing from County Antrim notched up his double on local hope Dylans Pride in the 153cm ponies while National Champion elect Dylan Browne McMonagle landed his treble aboard Lets Roll in the 1 mile open.

Ryan Sexton brother of under rules rider Kevin Sexton got his first ever winner aboard Pat Cash in a cracking finish to take the 12 furlong open and in the 2 mile non winners race  Galway rider Danny Gilligan made the journey home all the sweeter winning on Crafty Boy.

There was drama in the local pony race when Sam Hamilton – son of Brian Hamilton from Downpatrick – looked all set to score when the pony done a u turn with 50 yards to race and the race ended in a dead heat between Made of Candy and Cian McNally and Blossom and Nicole Yemm.

Racing in Garvagh in two weeks time with a 2.30pm start.
