NAOMH CONAILL were no match for Kilrea in yesterday’s Ulster Minor Club Football Championship quarter-final at St Paul’s in Belfast.

Kilrea 2-20 Naomh Conaill 2-07

Naomh Conaill did lead, 1-7 to 0-7, at half-time, but the Donegal champions didn’t score in the first 20 minutes of the second half with Kilrea registering 1-9 in that time.

Naomh Conaill did pull a goal back through sub Nathan Byrne but the game was gone from them by that stage.

The day ended on a really sour note for the Glenties side, who had three men sent off in the final quarter with Eoghan McGettigan, Odhran Doherty and Kieran Gallagher all given red cards.

Kilrea led 0-6 to 0-2 at one stage in the first half before Naomh Conaill clicked into action and Jack Flannery drilled home a 21st minute goal.

Flannery’s point a few moments later, after Kilrea responded, put Naomh Conaill ahead. Doherty and McGettigan tacked on points for a three-point interval lead.

Kilrea soon took charge, though and they added a series of scores at the outset of the second half.

13 minutes into the new half, they bagged a goal when Tirnan Quinn rattled the net, giving James Boyle no chance for a six-point lead.

In the space of two minutes, McGettigan and Doherty saw red and Gallagher followed late in the game.

Paddy Quigg netted Kilrea’s second goal when he was teed up by Eoin McGuigan.
