SIX DONEGAL athletes have been selected to represent Ireland at next month’s Celtic International in Wales.

The Irish team is to be managed by Finn Valley AC’s Dermot McGranaghan. Finn Valley athletes James Kelly, Sommer Lecky and Danny Browne will travel, as will Lifford Strabane AC pair Brendan O’Donnell and Gareth Crawford, and Rosses AC’s Fodhla McFadden.

Kelly, Lecky and O’Donnell are no strangers to the Irish vest, the latter two having recently competed in finals at the European Youth Athletics Championships in Georgia.

Lecky will compete in the high jump having won the Irish U17 and Irish senior high jump events in recent weeks.

Hammer thrower O’Donnell set a new personal best at the Europeans and will also take part in Wales, with club-mate Crawford, from Strabane, set to compete in the javelin.

McFadden will be in action in the triple jump having won the Under-17 title at the weekend.

Browne, from Crossroads, will go in the 100m and the 4x100m after collecting his first Irish title at the weekend in the 100m.

Kelly has been setting records and breaking them for some time now and this comes as the latest in a succession of selections for the St Johnston shot putter.
